I signed up to this class on Craftsy and was pretty impressed with Carol Ann's techniques. However it doesn't always suit me to have the internet on, so I bought this book to have beside me as I stitch. I think its a terrific book, it has lots of beautiful colour photos, easy to follow instructions and terrific advice on fabric selection, threads both machine & hand etc. The section on making a stitch bible is very informative also. I would highly recommend this book. The format is well set out and is easy to use as a guide for this type of stitching. Carol Ann is extremely generous with her knowledge & tips on how to get the best out of your project.Product details

This book takes you step by step from background fabric selection to creative thinking for choosing threads and cords to make a unique piece of art. It is well laid out and thorough in its explanations. I would recommend it to anyone who wants a different way to do creative sewing.
This book has so much information in it on using your machine's built-in decorative stitches...plus it has concise, easy to understand information on threads, needles, and other items. It also has very much information on how to use the decorative stitches to design an art piece including using hand embroidered stitching and beading. The "Stitch Bible" that Carol Ann shows how to make is also a very helpful tool to have. All-in-all the book is worth every penny and more.
Well, hand in there and you'll learn something. It starts out ssssooooo sssslllllooooowwwwww....and seems totally non-transferrable to any other medium, but if you stick with it, read each page and digest the theory behind what is offered, it is a valuable addition to your library. I personally don't care for the decorative stitching of my or any other machine so I'll be passing on that technique. It seems, at first, that use of decorative stictching is the premise for all remaining offerings, but if you think beyond duckies and Grecian keys, you'll get a lot of good ideas on color, pattern, line, movement...etc. In the end, this book is a good primer for the principles of design but in a colorful and inviting manner. It is a quick read, written well and in a user friendly manner and isn't so heavy on the author's personal experiences that it becomes a bore. You'll see a lot of pretty pictures that can be translated to acrylic or concentrated watercolor or even textile manipulation without having to "date" your work with those miserable little computer generated stitches. Do machines even COME with those stitches any more? I ordered my copy on a whim and on so at least I won't have to sacrifice shelf space for something which could have been very one dimensional.
I wish I had bought the paper version instead of the kindle however price was the factor for me. Instruction is great and together with an online class from the author, I am thrilled.
I took the class of the same name on Craftsy and liked it so much I decided to get the book. If you like using your machine's decorative stitches you will LOVE this book, whether you took/take the class or not. I got so many ideas from this book, it was well worth the price.
Fantastic book! Love the process and creativity ideas. Lots of pictures. I want to just sew and sew and sew after getting this book.
I must have had a burp downloading to my iPad, but a delete and re-downloading fixed the problem.
I got Carol Ann Waugh's book because I love her course on Craftsy and wanted the book as well. The book has her directions for creating a stitch book of your machine stitches, although it may take me forever at the rate I am going. If you are interested in decorative stitches or thread painting you might want to add this book to your library.
